Blended Learning in Action Podcast

Including Student Voice for Inclusive Excellence with Mariah Norman

Episode Summary

This episode is a continuation of the episode, Creating Inclusive Excellence for Students by Students. Mariah Norman is a recent graduate at Mason High School and is now freshman at Harvard University. Mariah was a member of the Inclusive Excellence Student Leadership Team at Mason High School. Mariah shares why she wanted to get student voices included in the work of creating inclusive environments for students in the school community, how the work she started in high school has helped her in navigating her time at Harvard. Most importantly, she has recognized that through doing this work she has learned that she must be more aware of how much she is taking on because of the emotional toll it can take on a person of color. This interview is so important for us to recognize that we shouldn't lean on our friends, colleagues, and/or relatives of color to educate us and do the important work of creating inclusive environments.
